Ergonomic Workstations

Just what IS an ergonomic workstation? Being able to adjust it is simply not enough. And even an “adjustable” workstation may be difficult to adjust without the use of many tools or the involvement of two or more persons, making it an impractical exercise. Being able to easily change the relationship between workstation elements is essential to addressing ergonomic concerns. That means no or few tools, no special skills required, and lightweight components.

Also, the ergonomic benefits of a workstation in the entire product use cycle must be considered. The Workstation Use Cycle consists of the following phases:

1. Initial Installation
2. Adjustment and Flexibility during use
3. Reconfiguration
   1. Individual workstation
   2. Entire Facility Layout

Workstations need to offer sufficient flexibility and adjustment range to insure that any user, regardless of physical characteristics or tasks performed, can easily make adjustments to suit them.
